Mateusz Szczypka

Mateusz Szczypka. Born in Tychy, Poland. Jazz guitarist, graduate of the Jazz Faculty of the The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of prof. Karol Ferfecki. He performed during numerous festivals both in Poland and overseas with artists such as Janusz Muniak, Grażyna Auguścik, Adam Kowalewski, Frank Parker, Piotr Schmidt, Grzegorz Karnas, and Mike Parker among others. He’s not only the leader of Szczypka / Kaletka Quintet and “Hot Strings Gypsy Quartet” but also performs in many other jazz and non-jazz ensembles.

Prize-winner at numerous competitions, including:

- the special prize of International Jarek Smietana Jazz Guitar Competition

- individual improvisation contest at Tarnow Jazz Contest, 2017

- distinction at the International Master Jazz Guitar Competition Guitar City in Warsaw

- jazz improvisation contest in Katowice

- jazz improvisation competition at a festival in Siedlec

- Novum Jazz Festival in Łomża

He participated in recording albums such as:

- Maria Gajewska’s „Water Nymph”

- Aldo Joshua’s “From Rome to Cracow”
